Baseball Recap: Murray Takes Down Viewmont in a Playoff Battle

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Murray had no problem doing just that on Thursday. Everything went their way against the Viewmont Vikings as they made off with a 9-1 win. The Spartans might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten matches by six runs or more this season.

Danny Blaylock spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on seven hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Degan Biltz was excellent, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs and one double. That double was his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Conner Whitehead, who went 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

Murray has been performing well recently as they've won 11 of their last 14 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-5-1 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.5 runs over those games. As for Viewmont, with the loss, they broke their eight-game winning streak and moved their record to 18-10.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: the Vikings beat Murray by a score of 4-3 later that day.
