Volleyball Recap: Mendota Comes Up Short

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Mendota can now relate to. They fell 2-0 to the Newman Central Catholic Comets on Monday. The loss continues a trend for the Trojans in their meetings with the Comets: they've now lost three in a row.

Mendota's offense was headlined by Mariyah Elam and LayLie DenauLt, who picked up six kills apiece. They got some help from Eva Beetz and her 13 assists. Finally, Elam was also a dominant defender, finishing with a team-high three blocks.

Mendota's defeat dropped their record down to 6-28-1. As for Newman Central Catholic, the win was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 17-18.

Mendota does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Newman Central Catholic, they will square off against Sherrard at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
