Football Recap: Buford Wolves vs. Douglas County Tigers
On Friday fans watched as two of the best teams in the nation hit the field. The Buford Wolves took down the Douglas County Tigers 31-14. Buford's win was all the more impressive since the Tigers were averaging only 15 points allowed on the season.
Justin Baker was a one-man wrecking crew for Buford as he rushed for 112 yards and two touchdowns on only 11 carries. The dominant performance gave Baker a new career-high in rushing yards. Another player making a difference was Jordan Allen, who picked up 76 receiving yards and a touchdown.
On the other side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Buford's defense and their three sacks. Bryce Perry-Wright was particularly dangerous to the passing game, picking up twohimself. He also set a new season high mark in total tackles with seven.
Buford was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 200 rushing yards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Douglas County only rushed for 56.
Although Douglas County took the loss, they still got scores from Aaron Gregory and Karson Kindred.
The victory was the third in a row for Buford, bringing their record for this year to 3-1. As for Douglas County, their loss ended an eight-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 4-1.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Buford's road trip will continue as they head out to face Discovery at 7:30 a.m. on Friday. Buford's defense has only allowed 18 points per game this season, so Discovery's offense will have their work cut out for them. As for Douglas County, they will have plenty of time to ponder what went wrong as they've got a bye scheduled next week. After, they'll take on Columbia at 7:30 p.m. on September 27th.
