Softball Recap: University Continues Road Dominance on Saturday

University faced Morgantown in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Saturday. The Hawks walked away with an 8-5 win over the Mohigans. This was a revenge game for the Hawks: when they faced off against the Mohigans last Friday, they had to take a 6-3 loss.

Sophia Lehosit spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned runs on six hits and racked up nine Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in eight consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Maddie Campbell was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Kelsey Park, who went 3-for-4 with two RBI and one run.

University was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Morgantown only posted a batting average of .185.

University's victory was their 11th straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 10-2. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games. As for Morgantown, the defeat snapped their winning streak at six games and leaves them with a 10-7 record.

Coincidentally, University and Morgantown will both be playing Jefferson the next time they take the field. The Hawks will host the Cougars at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, while the Mohigans will play them later in the day, at 3:00 p.m.
