Softball Recap: Milpitas Trojans vs. Homestead Mustangs

Milpitas extended their losing streak to three on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 5-16 in the process. They lost 18-7 to the Homestead Mustangs. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Mustangs this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 6-5 back in April.

Elianna Rodriguez was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and two RBI. Chloe Cabrera was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three RBI and one triple.

As for Homestead, they pushed their record up to 13-4 with the win, which was their sixth straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.3 runs over those games.

On Homestead's side, Mackenzie Smith made a big impact no matter where she played. She struck out eight batters over seven innings while giving up four earned (and three unearned) runs off nine hits. Smith was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with four RBI and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April of 2024.

In other batting news, Homestead got a massive performance out of Gwyn Romero, who got on base in five of her six plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and four RBI. That's the most runs Romero has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Cierra Hagan, who got on base in three of her six plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and four RBI.

As of now, neither Milpitas nor Homestead have any future games scheduled.
