Basketball Game Preview: Rock Canyon Jaguars vs. George Washington Patriots

The Rock Canyon Jaguars and the George Washington Patriots will face off at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday without much rest having both just played. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, both will really light up the scoreboard.

Having struggled with three defeats in a row, Rock Canyon turned things around against Ponderosa on Friday. They blew past the Mustangs 73-42. The contest marked the Jaguars' most dominant victory of the season.

Rock Canyon's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Jacob David, who went 10 for 17 on his way to 25 points and eight rebounds, and Kasen Lehman, who went 6 of 8 en route to 18 points in addition to seven assists and five steals. The matchup was Lehman's fourth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Shiv Meredy, who posted nine points.

They weren't the only one working in the assists department: Rock Canyon was working as a unit and finished the game with 21 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in January of 2024.

George Washington has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They were five points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 78-73 heartbreaker at the hands of Northfield. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game on Tuesday (59), the Patriots still had to take the loss.

George Washington's loss dropped their record down to 7-4. As for Rock Canyon, their win bumped their record up to 6-7.

Everything came up roses for Rock Canyon against George Washington in their previous matchup back in December of 2021, as the team secured a 62-35 victory. Will Rock Canyon repeat their success, or does George Washington have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
