Baseball Recap: Metamora Comes Up Short

Metamora was the 7-6 winner over Ottawa when they last played one another back in March of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Metamora Redbirds fell just short of the Ottawa Pirates by a score of 9-8 on Tuesday. The Redbirds have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Cole Smith made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with three runs, four RBI, and two doubles. The team also got some help courtesy of Eli Young, who went 2-for-3 with one RBI.

Smith wasn't the only one working in the hit department: Metamora kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That's the most hits they've posted since the start of last season.

Metamora's defeat dropped their record down to 0-2. As for Ottawa, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to a perfect 2-0.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Metamora will take on Rock Island at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Ottawa, they will square off against Sandwich at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
