Preview: Mathis Pirates vs. Taft Greyhounds
Mathis has enjoyed a three-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will face off against the Taft Greyhounds at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Taft took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Mathis, who comes in off a win.
Mathis scored the most runs they've had all season to find success on Monday. They put the hurt on Aransas Pass with a sharp 13-2 win.
Savion Nixon made a big impact no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run while striking out ten over five innings pitched. Nixon has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive pitching appearances. Nixon was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.
In other batting news, Antonio Deleon was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing four bases while going 2-for-4. Another player making a difference was Ashton Quesada, who scored two runs and stole three bases while getting on base in two of his three plate appearances.
Meanwhile, Taft came up short against Odem on Monday and fell 7-3. Taft has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
