Preview: Kinkaid Falcons vs. St. John's Mavericks
Kinkaid has enjoyed the comforts of home their last two games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will take on the St. John's Mavericks at 7:15 p.m. on Friday. Both teams come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Kinkaid was handed a 26-point loss in their previous outing, but they didn't let that bad energy affect their game against the Rams on Tuesday. Kinkaid came out on top in a nail-biter against the Rams and snuck past 44-41. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory Kinkaid has posted since December 22, 2023.
Meanwhile, St. John's came tearing into Tuesday's game with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 16.3 points) and they left with even more momentum. They strolled past Houston HomeSchool with points to spare, taking the game 70-52. Given St. John's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 75th, while the Raiders are ranked 462nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
St. John's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Malachi Booker, who scored 13 points along with three steals, and Sebastian Williams-adams, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 11 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Colin Callahan, who scored five points along with 11 rebounds.
Kinkaid's record is now 5-20. As for St. John's, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 14 of their last 16 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 23-6 record this season.
Kinkaid ended up a good deal behind the Mavericks when the teams last played back in February of 2023, losing 67-51. Can Kinkaid avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
