Basketball Recap: Gilmer Piles Up the Points Against Murphy

Gilmer won the last time they faced Murphy and things went their way on Saturday too. The Gilmer Bobcats simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Murphy Bulldogs 67-22. Given the Bobcats' advantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 123rd in Georgia, while the Bulldogs are ranked 353rd in North Carolina), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Gilmer's win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-7. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 61.8 points per game. As for Murphy, with the defeat, they broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 7-8.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. A feisty cat fight is on tap when the Gilmer Bobcats face off against the Ridgeland Panthers at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Gilmer is facing Ridgeland at the right time seeing as Ridgeland is stuck on a 12-game losing streak. As for Murphy, they are taking a road trip to challenge Cherokee at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
