Softball Game Preview: St. Margaret's Scotties vs. St. Catherine's Saints

For the first time this season, St. Margaret will have a chance to prove themselves in a conference matchup. They will head out to take on the St. Catherine's Saints at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Neither of those teams managed to put together many runs in their previous contests, so the offenses might be a little more motivated than usual.

St. Margaret's is headed into Friday's match looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their 14th straight game dating back to last season on Tuesday. They came up short against Collegiate, falling 21-2.

Meanwhile, St. Catherine's had already won nine in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8.8 runs) and they went ahead and made it ten on Thursday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 2-0 victory over the Patriots. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Saints have posted since March 14th.

St. Catherine's saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Izzy Viruet, who went 1-for-3 with one triple and one run. That triple was Viruet's first of the season.

St. Catherine's hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least four batters in three consecutive games.

St. Margaret's might still be hurting after the 19-0 defeat they got from St. Catherine's in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can the Scotties avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
