Baseball Game Preview: Ligonier Valley Rams vs. Elizabeth Forward Warriors

The Ligonier Valley Rams will venture away from home to face off against the Elizabeth Forward Warriors at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.

Tuesday just wasn't the day for Ligonier Valley's offense. They lost 6-0 to Freeport on Tuesday. The game marked the first time this season in which the Rams were not able to get on the board.

Meanwhile, Elizabeth Forward hadn't done well against Laurel Highlands recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. The Warriors came out on top against the Mustangs by a score of 5-1. The game was the first time the Warriors have beaten the Mustangs on their field since April 15, 2015.

Cy Herchelroath was excellent, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.

The win was the third in a row for Elizabeth Forward, bringing their record up to 6-1. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games. As for Ligonier Valley, their loss dropped their record down to 1-4.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Friday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Ligonier Valley has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Elizabeth Forward struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 10.1 strikeouts.
