Basketball Recap: Tuesday's Defeat Ends Mountain View's Winning Streak

It was a good run, but Mountain View unfortunately witnessed the end of their five-game winning streak on Tuesday. They fell 47-36 to the Severance Silver Knights. The matchup marked the Mountain Lions' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

Dylan Garland and Cole Tonniges certainly did their best on Tuesday to avoid the loss. Garland went 7 of 13 on his way to 18 points along with six rebounds and three steals, while Tonniges posted eight points and six boards. Garland has been hot, having posted two or more steals the last eight times he's played.

Severance got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Blake Varney out in front who put up 14 points. What's more, Varney also racked up four assists, the most he's had since back in February of 2024. Another player making a difference was Jordan Rodriguez, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 12 boards.

Mountain View's defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 9-7. As for Severance, the win (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 11-5.

Coincidentally, the two teams will both be playing Berthoud the next time they take the court. Mountain View will head out to face Berthoud at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, while Severance will host them at 7:30 p.m. on February 4th.
