Cascade is 8-2 against Newport since April of 2023 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Cougars will head out to face off against the Cubs at 5:00 p.m. Cascade will be looking to extend their current 11-game winning streak.
Cascade barely beat Stayton the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Cougars blew past the Eagles 10-4 on Thursday. Considering the Cougars have won ten matchups by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Taylor Bays spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four runs (all of which were unearned) on nine hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up a single walk in seven consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Maddy Tingle was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Cassidy Crabtree was another key player, going 4-for-5 with one stolen base and one run.
Cascade was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .424. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .419 or higher in four consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Newport didn't have quite enough to beat Philomath on Thursday and fell 14-13. The Cubs have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Newport got a massive performance out of Ashtyn Black, who went 2-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Another player making a difference was Kiley Humphrys, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.
Newport's loss dropped their record down to 4-16. As for Cascade, their victory bumped their record up to 13-5.
Newport's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Cascade has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.9 hits per game. It's a different story for Newport, though, as they've been averaging 8.8 hits. Given Cascade's sizable advantage in that area, the Cubs will need to find a way to close that gap.
Cascade got the 'W' when the teams last played last Wednesday against Newport by a conclusive 12-2 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Cougars since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
