Preview: Langston Hughes Panthers vs. South Paulding Spartans
Two dominant forwards in McKayla Taylor and Lana Vandyke are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Langston Hughes Panthers and the South Paulding Spartans will face off at 6:00 p.m. on January 23rd without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Langston Hughes will be looking to keep their 17-game home win streak alive.
Langston Hughes can now show off 12 landslide victories after their most recent game on Saturday. They were the clear victor by a 63-40 margin over East Paulding. Given Langston Hughes' advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 23rd, while East Paulding is ranked 381st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Taylor was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 28 points and 18 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points she has scored all season. Taylor Harris was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with five assists and five rebounds.
South Paulding aren't just finding sucess at home, as their game on Friday extended their overall winning streak to three. They strolled past Douglas County with points to spare, taking the game 53-39.
Langston Hughes' win bumped their record up to 14-3. As for South Paulding, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 6-13 record this season.
Everything came up roses for Langston Hughes against South Paulding when the teams last played back in December of 2023 as the squad secured a 68-33 win. Will Langston Hughes repeat their success, or does South Paulding have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
