Basketball Recap: Saturday's Loss Ends Flagler Palm Coast's Winning Streak

After a string of five wins, Flagler Palm Coast's good fortune finally ran out on Saturday. They fell to the Colonial Grenadiers 63-57. While losing is never fun, the Bulldogs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 309th, while the Grenadiers are ranked 111th).

Flagler Palm Coast's loss came despite strong showings from Anthony Hampton and Jasiah Sanders. Hampton went 8 for 17 on his way to 20 points, while Sanders went 8 of 9 en route to 16 points. That was a full 35.1% of Flagler Palm Coast's points, marking the third time in a row he's posted more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Roman Caliendo, who had six points and seven rebounds.

Even though they lost, Flagler Palm Coast smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in four consecutive contests.

Flagler Palm Coast's loss dropped their record down to 5-5. As for Colonial, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 7-4.

Flagler Palm Coast wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 60-56 defeat against Whitman-Hanson Regional on the 27th. As for Colonial, they will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Tocoi Creek at 5:30 p.m. on January 3, 2025.
