Basketball Game Preview: Red Bud Musketeers vs. Carlyle Indians/Lady Indians

Red Bud is 2-8 against Carlyle since December of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Monday. The Red Bud Musketeers are taking a road trip to challenge the Carlyle Indians/Lady Indians at 7:30 p.m.

Red Bud saw some tournament action on Saturday. They lost to Marquette Catholic on the road by a 43-28 margin.

Lilly Minemann was Red Bud's leading scorer, having posted nine points. Emma Carter held things down on the boards with nine rebounds.

Meanwhile, Carlyle slipped by Vienna 40-39 on Monday. The 40-point effort marked the Indians/Lady Indians' lowest-scoring game of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.

Carlyle's win came from a few key players Red Bud will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Lera Schmeink, who went 7 of 16 en route to 15 points and six rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Sophia Hoffmann, who posted nine points.

Red Bud's defeat dropped their record down to 12-6. As for Carlyle, their victory bumped their record up to 13-2.

Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Red Bud has crashing the boards this season, having averaged 33.7 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Carlyle struggles in that department as they've been averaging 27.3 boards. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.

Red Bud was dealt a bruising 63-31 loss at the hands of Carlyle in their previous matchup back in February of 2024. Can Red Bud avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
