Football Recap: Cole Rolland and Jayden Ellen Secure Win for Checotah

It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but Checotah ultimately got the result they hoped for on Friday. They had just enough and edged out the Idabel Warriors 55-53. This was payback for the Wildcats, who suffered a 38-23 loss the last time these two teams met.

Leading Checotah to victory were Jayden Ellen and Cole Rolland. Ellen rushed for 203 yards and five touchdowns while picking up 7.5 yards per carry, while Rolland rushed for 207 yards and three scores. That's the most rushing touchdowns Rolland has posted since back in September.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Checotah was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 410 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've managed all season.

Idabel's loss came despite strong showings from Mack Dixon and Jordyn Lewis. Dixon threw for 282 yards and six TDs while picking up 11.8 yards per attempt, while Lewis picked up 170 receiving yards and five touchdowns. Lewis was no stranger to the big play, cutting upfield on a catch that went for 52 yards.

With the win, Checotah broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 5-4. As for Idabel, the defeat snapped their winning streak at four games and leaves them with a 5-4 record.

Coming up, Checotah will take on Eufaula at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Wildcats will be up against the Ironheads' rather soft defense (which has allowed 42.56 points per game), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for Idabel, they will face off against Lincoln Christian at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Warriors will need to watch out since the Bulldogs have now posted at least 31 points every time they've taken the field this season.
