The Mesa Verde Mavericks are taking a road trip to take on the Hughson Huskies at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Mesa Verde has given up an average of 8.6 runs per game this season, but Wednesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Mesa Verde is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Monday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past West Campus 24-23. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Mavericks have posted since March 19th.

Ellie Ray was a standout: she got on base in all six of her plate appearances with four runs and four RBI. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Madison Martin, who got on base in three of her six plate appearances with three stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs.
Mesa Verde always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .582. They are a perfect 8-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Meanwhile, Hughson came tearing into Tuesday's matchup with nine straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8 runs), and they left with even more momentum. Everything went their way against the Wildcats as they made off with a 7-0 win. Considering the Huskies have won 11 contests by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
The result came thanks to Emma Carne's shutout, as she gave up just four hits and racked up ten Ks. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Sophie Trevino, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one run and one RBI. Presley Wells was another key player, going 1-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Mesa Verde's record is now 11-6. As for Hughson, their record now sits at 19-3.
Hughson's pitching crew better be locked in on Wednesday. Mesa Verde hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.4 home runs per game.
