Basketball Game Preview: Marshall Hilltoppers vs. Pillager Huskies

Marshall hasn't had much luck against Pillager recently, but that could start to change on Saturday. The Marshall Hilltoppers will square off against the Pillager Huskies at 2:30 p.m.

Marshall is headed into Saturday's match looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their seventh straight game on Monday. They came up short against Hibbing, falling 76-52. While losing is never fun, the Hilltoppers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Minnesota basketball rankings (they are ranked 310th, while the Bluejackets are ranked 131st).

Meanwhile, Pillager came tearing into Monday's contest with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 19.7 points) and they left with even more momentum. They beat the Cardinals by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 77-72.

Pillager's win bumped their record up to 15-7. As for Marshall, their loss dropped their record down to 6-15.

Marshall came up short against Pillager when the teams last played back in February of 2024, falling 76-63. Can Marshall avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
