Softball Recap: Boling Bulldogs vs. Van Vleck Leopards

Boling extended their losing streak to 11 on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 3-19 in the process. They came up short against the Van Vleck Leopards, falling 21-2. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Leopards this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 12-0 on April 1st.

Boling saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jailianna Johnson, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.

As for Van Vleck, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-5-2 record this season. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

On Van Vleck's side, Lakyn Matchett made a splash no matter where she played. She pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Matchett has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with one double.

In other batting news, Van Vleck got a massive performance out of Aamry Gutierrez, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with four RBI, one triple, and one run. Those four RBI gave Gutierrez a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Alexa Zuniga, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Boling does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Van Vleck, they will take on Trinity at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.
