Softball Recap: Jones Comes Up Short

Jones fell victim to Pamlico County and their airtight pitching crew on Tuesday. They lost 7-0 to the Hurricanes. The Trojans were not able to make up for their defeat to the Hurricanes from their previous meeting back in April of 2024.

Payten Plyler spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned (and two unearned) runs on nine hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Jones saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Makenzie Maines, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases.

Jones has also been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-10 record this season. As for Pamlico County, their win bumped their record up to 14-8.

While Jones had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
