Softball Recap: Mingus Comes Up Short

Mingus extended their losing streak to seven on Wednesday, dropping them down to 3-12. They lost 13-1 to the Flagstaff Eagles. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Eagles this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 21-3 on Monday.

Mingus saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Coco Grenough, who went 1-for-2 with one triple and one run.

As for Flagstaff, their win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 15-4. The result was nothing new for the Eagles, who have now won 12 contests by six runs or more so far this season.

On Flagstaff's side, Cailee Culwell was a major factor no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out six over five innings pitched. Culwell was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI and one double. That's the most hits she has posted over her last 12 games.

In other batting news, Mayla Speer and Cayleigh Begay did most of the damage at the plate: Speer went 2-for-3 with three runs, one double, and one RBI, while Begay went 3-for-4 with three RBI and two runs. Another player making a difference was Ryleigh Alex, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBI.

Looking ahead, Mingus will be playing in front of their home fans against Mohave at 3:45 p.m. on the 9th. As for Flagstaff, they will square off against Lee Williams at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Eagles' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Volunteers have averaged an impressive 7.7 runs per game this season.
