Football Recap: Burke County Wins Going Away Against Northside

Burke County won the last time they faced Northside and things went their way on Friday too. The Bears strolled past the Eagles with points to spare, taking the game 28-14. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Bears.

Among those leading the charge was Sean Vandiver, who rushed for 53 yards, and also threw for 87 yards and one touchdown while completing 88.9% of his passes. What's more, he racked up 153.5 passer rating, the most he's had since back in November of 2024.

On the other side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Burke County's defense and their four sacks. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Sheldon Cunningham, Dexter Bynes, and Jaymeson Pierce, who each picked up one sack apiece. Ronquavious Morris got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

Burke County's victory bumped their record up to 4-1. As for Northside, they are on a 12-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-4.

Burke County will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Glenn Hills at 7:30 p.m. on the 26th. The Bears will be up against the Spartans' rather soft defense (which has allowed 54 points per contest), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for Northside, they have already played their next match, a 19-6 defeat against Peach County on the 19th.
