Baseball Recap: Thomas Nelson Takes a Loss

Thomas Nelson extended their losing streak to four on Thursday, dropping them down to 1-6. They lost 13-2 to the Bardstown Tigers. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Tigers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 14-4 on Tuesday.

Payton Thompson was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, one run, and one double. Jacob Parsley was another key player, earning three stolen bases.

As for Bardstown, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 4-5. The matchup marked their most dominant win of the season so far.

On Bardstown's side, Michael Sketo was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out seven over five innings pitched. Sketo also tossed a walk, which is notable because Bardstown is 2-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 2-4 otherwise. Sketo was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with one run and one RBI. That hit marked the first that he has got this season.

In other batting news, Kaden Brake and Breylan Tinnell did most of the damage at the plate: Brake got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three runs and one RBI, while Tinnell went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most RBI Tinnell has posted since back in March of 2025. Another player making a difference was Lucas Kiser, who went 1-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI.

While Thomas Nelson had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.
