Softball Recap: CORE Butte Has No Trouble Against Maxwell

CORE Butte hadn't done well against Maxwell recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The Lynx put the hurt on the Panthers with a sharp 16-2 victory. That 14 run margin sets a new team best for the Lynx this season.

Jody Beckley was a standout: she scored two runs and stole three bases while going 1-for-4. Another player making a difference was Reagan Coates, who scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

CORE Butte always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .658. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

The win made it two in a row for CORE Butte and bumps their season record up to 7-10. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 18.5 runs over those games. As for Maxwell, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost 12 of their last 14 matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-15 record this season.

CORE Butte and Maxwell could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps California Rankings. The Lynx will challenge Los Molinos at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday with a big rank disadvantage (984 vs. 345). Meanwhile, Maxwell (ranked 1078th) will meet Quincy (ranked 423rd) at 2:00 p.m. on May 2.
