The Mission Heights Prep Phantoms will take on the Imagine Prep Storm at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Mission Heights Prep is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.8 runs per game this season.
Mission Heights Prep is probably headed into the contest with a chip on their shoulder considering Our Lady of Sorrows just ended the team's three-game winning streak on Wednesday. They fell just short of the Cavaliers by a score of 6-5.
Mission Heights Prep saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Daniel Vargas, who scored a run while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Cameron Mata was another, scoring a run and stealing three bases while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Imagine Prep). They blew past Harvest Prep Academy 13-1 on Tuesday. The Storm haven't had any issues with the Eagle recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.
Xavier Romero made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out nine over five innings pitched. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March of 2024.
In other batting news, Carlos Carrasco was a standout: he went a perfect 4-for-4 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Jeremiah Hunt, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3.
Imagine Prep always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .571. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
The victory got Imagine Prep back to even at 4-4-1. As for Mission Heights Prep, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-3-1.
Imagine Prep's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Mission Heights Prep hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .464. It's a different story for Imagine Prep, though, as they've only averaged .164. Will they be able to contain Mission Heights Prep's hitters?
Mission Heights Prep skirted past Imagine Prep 8-6 when the teams last played on Friday. Do the Phantoms have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Storm turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
