Baseball Recap: Sumner Has No Trouble Against Bethel

Sumner never let their opponents score on Friday. They were the clear victors by a 14-0 margin over the Bethel Bison. Considering the Spartans have won nine games by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Sumner got several good pitching performances, but Owen Tobin was perhaps the best, pitching one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits.

At the plate, Drew Wicklander was excellent, going 1-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Those RBI marked the first that he has brought in this season. Wyatt Plyler was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

Sumner hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least five batters in six consecutive contests.

Sumner has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-5 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.0 runs over those games. As for Bethel, their loss dropped their record down to 4-14.

Looking ahead, Sumner will be playing at home against Bonney Lake at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Bethel, they will head out on the road to face off against Curtis at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Vikings' pitching crew has only allowed 3.6 runs per game this season, so the Bison's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
