Baseball Recap: Ridgemont Triumphs

Ridgemont hadn't beaten Elgin on the road since May 12, 2021 but that history sure didn't bother them on Friday. The Golden Gophers narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Comets 6-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Golden Gophers have posted since May 16, 2025.

Jayden Sifrit and Kody Kiser made a splash while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Sifrit struck out seven batters over four innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. Meanwhile, Kiser didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Ridgemont is 3-1 when he allows at most two earned runs, but 1-3-1 otherwise. At bat, Sifrit went 2-for-8 with one run and one double, while Kiser got on base in six of his nine plate appearances with four runs and one stolen base.

In other batting news, Maddox Thompson was incredible, going 4-for-8 with four RBI and one double. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high.

The victory got Ridgemont back to even at 4-4-1. As for Elgin, their loss was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 6-4-1.

Ridgemont has already played their next game, a 14-1 win against Hardin Northern on the 20th. As for Elgin, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 14-0 victory against Waynesfield-Goshen on the 20th.
