Basketball Recap: Rio Rancho Falls Short Against Ranked St. Michael's

On Tuesday, Rio Rancho faced St. Michael in a battle between two of the state's top teams. The Rio Rancho Rams fell just short of the St. Michael's Horsemen by a score of 69-66. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Saturday (60), the Rams still had to take the loss.

Rio Rancho lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Noah Lovato, who went 5 for 9 en route to 16 points and eight boards. Jordan McNeely was another key player, putting up 12 points and five rebounds.

St. Michael's found their leader in sophomore Ryan Hunt, who went 8 of 12 on his way to 21 points and six boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Nick Angelley, who went 6 for 9 en route to 14 points and six rebounds.

Rio Rancho's defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 11-4. As for St. Michael's, the victory was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 11-3.

Rio Rancho has already played their next match, a 61-58 loss against Roswell on the 17th. As for St. Michael's, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 55-49 win against Pojoaque Valley on the 16th.
