Softball Game Preview: Los Fresnos Falcons vs. Veterans Memorial Chargers

The Los Fresnos Falcons will square off against the Veterans Memorial Chargers at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Los Fresnos is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.3 runs per game this season.

Tuesday just wasn't the day for Los Fresnos' offense. They fell 3-0 to San Benito on Tuesday. The loss continues a trend for the Falcons in their meetings with the Greyhounds: they've now lost six in a row.

Los Fresnos saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Harmony Moore, who went 1-for-3 with one double.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Veterans Memorial, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Friday. They blew past Hanna 11-1 on Tuesday.

Mia Gonzalez was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run and five RBI. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. Alyssa Sosa was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI.

Veterans Memorial kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. They are 5-1 when they post 11 or more hits.

Veterans Memorial is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-13 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games. As for Los Fresnos, they now have a losing record of 11-12-1.

Los Fresnos' speedy runners might be the difference in Friday's match. The Falcons have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.9 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Veterans Memorial, though, as they've been averaging only 0.9 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Los Fresnos continue to outrun the ball?
