Basketball Recap: Mount Dora Comes Up Short

Mount Dora was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their eighth straight defeat. They came up short against the Orlando Christian Prep Warriors, falling 65-41. The Hurricanes lost against the Warriors in their previous head to head back in December of 2021, too, but the margin this time around was much closer than the 64-18 score last time.

When it comes to explaining why Mount Dora lost, don't look at Daqavious Taylor. Despite the final result, he went 9 for 20 on his way to 24 points. Another player making a difference was Jeremiah Brinson, who posted eight points.

Roman Mathieu had a dynamite game for Orlando Christian Prep, going 8 of 12 en route to 20 points. The dominant performance also gave Mathieu a new career-high in blocks (two). Zeke Gunn was another key player, almost dropping a double-double on 11 points and nine rebounds.

Mount Dora's loss dropped their record down to 3-13. As for Orlando Christian Prep, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 7-9.

Mount Dora wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 66-62 victory against East Ridge on the 16th. As for Orlando Christian Prep, they will venture away from home to challenge Charlotte at 7:20 p.m. on Friday. Orlando Christian Prep is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 54.1 points per game this season.
