Basketball Recap: Martinsville Comes Up Short

Martinsville was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They took a blow against the Plainfield Quakers, falling 68-34. While losing is never fun, the Artesians can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 263rd, while the Quakers are ranked 27th).

Despite the loss, Martinsville still got an impressive performance from Layla Mallery, who posted 14 points. Another player making a difference was Jade Meade, who earned five points.

Berkeley Williams continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Plainfield, going 10 for 15 on her way to 24 points and four steals. With that strong performance, Williams is now averaging an impressive 2.1 steals per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Ellison Stewart, who put up six points in addition to eight rebounds and seven assists.

Martinsville's loss dropped their record down to 2-9. As for Plainfield, their victory bumped their record up to 8-3.

Martinsville wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 67-59 defeat against Monrovia on the 21st. As for Plainfield, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 61-33 win against Harrison on the 21st.
