Baseball Game Preview: Vasquez Mustangs vs. Golden Valley Grizzlies

The Vasquez Mustangs will head out to challenge the Golden Valley Grizzlies at 3:15 p.m. on Monday. Vasquez will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak.

On Saturday, Vasquez beat Liberty Baptist Academy 11-7.

Mason Puett made a splash while hitting and pitching. He pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up a single earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Zach Vanornum, who scored two runs and stole Two bases. while going 3-for-5. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in March of 2024. Landon McGriff also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.

Meanwhile, the third road match was the charm for Golden Valley, as they earned their first road win of the season. They came out on top against Providence by a score of 5-1 on Saturday.

Vasquez's record is now 6-1. As for Golden Valley, their win ended a six-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 3-3.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Vasquez has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Golden Valley struggles in that department as they've been averaging 8 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.

Vasquez couldn't quite get it done against Golden Valley in their previous matchup back in February of 2024 as they fell 5-0. Can Vasquez avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
