Recap: Englewood Pirates vs. Jefferson Saints
It was a good run, but the Englewood Pirates unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Tuesday. They took a 46-40 hit to the loss column at the hands of Jefferson. Englewood was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Jefferson apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in January of 2023.
Several Pirates players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jonae Harris, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 11 rebounds. Harris is crushing the steal category: she's posted at least three every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Alex Harkness, who scored ten points along with three steals.
Shya Guzman was her usual excellent self, scoring 22 points for Jefferson. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Guzman has scored all season. T Nutter was another key contributor, scoring ten points.
Englewood's defeat dropped their record down to 6-10. As for Jefferson, they pushed their record up to 9-3 with that victory, which was their fourth straight at home.
Englewood will take on Arrupe Jesuit at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Arrupe Jesuit focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 30 on Tuesday. As for Jefferson, they will head out on the road to square off against Bruce Randolph at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
