Softball Preview: Powell Panthers vs. Karns Beavers

Powell and Karns are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2021, but likely not for long. The Powell Panthers will be playing at home against the Karns Beavers at 7:30 a.m. on Monday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Powell took a loss when they played away from home on Wednesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand Campbell County a 15-0 shutout. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for Powell considering their two-run performance the match before.

Kayleigh Smith made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Smith was also big at the plate, going 1-for-1 with a home run and three RBI.

In other batting news, Jaylan Heatherly was incredible, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI. Izy Wiles was another key contributor, going 1-for-3 with a triple, a stolen base, and two RBI.

Meanwhile, Karns won against Cocke County on Wednesday with eight runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Thursday. Karns was the clear victor by an 8-2 margin over Tennessee. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Karns.

Powell's win was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 20-10-3. As for Karns, they are on a roll lately: they've won 20 of their last 26 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 28-10 record this season.
