Baseball Recap: Mccluer Sets Scoring Season-High Against University City

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask McCluer). They put the hurt on the University City Lions with a sharp 17-7 win on Friday. With that victory, the Comets brought their scoring average up to 6.9 runs per game.

Xavier Hill made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He struck out ten batters over four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

In other batting news, William Speed was incredible, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with four stolen bases, four runs, and three RBI. McCluer is 4-1 when Speed posts two or more stolen bases, but 0-5 otherwise. Eric Lorenz was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with four stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.

McCluer always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .538. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

McCluer's win bumped their record up to 4-6. As for University City, they dropped their record down to 3-4 with the loss, which was their third straight on the road.
