Basketball Recap: Woods Cross Comes Up Short

Woods Cross and Bountiful squared off in some playoff action on Friday, but Woods Cross had to settle for second. The contest between them and the Bountiful RedHawks didn't end well, with the Woods Cross Wildcats falling 69-50. While losing is never fun, the Wildcats can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Utah basketball rankings (they are ranked 60th, while the RedHawks are ranked 20th).

Despite the loss, Woods Cross still got an impressive performance from Elliot Bendinger, who went 5-for-8 to rack up 14 points and eight boards. Bendinger is also on a roll when it comes to shooting accuracy, as he's posted one of at least 56% in the last six games he's played. Another player making a difference was Madden Johnsen, who posted seven points.

Charlie Smith continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Bountiful, almost dropping a double-double with 17 points and nine rebounds. What's more, Smith also posted a 70% field goal percentage, which is the highest he's achieved since back in December of 2024. Aisake Willis was another key player, going 6-for-11 en route to 15 points.

Woods Cross dropped their record down to 14-11 with the loss, which was their third straight on the road. As for Bountiful, they are on a roll lately: they've won 13 of their last 14 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 20-4 record this season.

Woods Cross does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Bountiful, they will challenge Highland at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday. Both teams are coming into the game red-hot, with Highland sitting on five straight victories and Bountiful on eight.
