Basketball Recap: Quitman Comes Up Short

Quitman lost against Morton back in December of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Quitman Panthers were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 48-47 to the Morton Panthers. Quitman was up 38-24 in the third quarter but couldn't hold on to the lead.

Several Panthers players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was TATIYONNA PITTMAN, who posted 14 points and seven rebounds. Those 14 points gave PITTMAN a new career-high. Another player making a difference was AIYANNA DEAR, who had nine points and six boards.

Even though they lost, Quitman was working as a unit and finished the game with 14 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Nazrin Lyles had a dynamite game for Morton, dropping a double-double on 23 points and ten rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Mariona Boyd, who put up 15 points.

The loss snapped Quitman's winning streak at four games and leaves them with a 13-7 record. As for Morton, the victory was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 15-5.

Quitman has already played their next game, a 50-29 defeat against Bay Springs on the 20th. As for Morton, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 47-18 win against Ridgeland on the 18th.
