Baseball Recap: Bristol Eastern Takes a Loss

Bristol Eastern extended their losing streak to seven on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 4-8 in the process. They lost 13-1 to the Northwest Catholic Lions. The Lancers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Lions apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in April of 2023.

As for Northwest Catholic, their win bumped their record up to 5-6. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

For Northwest Catholic's part, Jonah Balcerzak was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Northwest Catholic is 2-1 when Balcerzak allows two or fewer hits, but 3-5 otherwise. Balcerzak was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with three runs, two RBI, and one double. Those three runs gave him a new career-high.

In other pitching news, Blaise Hannigan looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits.

Back at the plate, Northwest Catholic got a massive performance out of Andrew Mikan, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. Mikan has become a key player for the Lions: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 3-5 otherwise. Will Vincent was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and two doubles.

While Bristol Eastern had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair will be back at it again later today.
