Baseball Game Preview: East Burke Cavaliers vs. East Rutherford Cavaliers

East Burke is 0-6 against East Rutherford since March of 2015 but things could change on Monday. East Burke will head out to face off against East Rutherford at 6:30 p.m. The two teams have allowed few runs on average, (East Burke 2.6, East Rutherford 0.8) so any runs scored will be well earned.

East Burke will bounce into Monday's matchup after beating Bunker Hill, who they had gone 2-7 against in their nine prior meetings. East Burke came out on top in a nail-biter against Bunker Hill on Friday, sneaking past 5-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Cavaliers have posted against the Bears since March 17, 2022.

Colt Butcher made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over 4.1 innings while giving up three earned runs off five hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with one home run. He also put up a run, which was his first of the season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Cannon Morrison, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4. He also brought in an RBI, marking his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Maddox Mosteller, who went 3-for-4 with one stolen base and one RBI.

Meanwhile, East Rutherford put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. Their pitchers stepped up to hand Patton a 10-0 shutout. That's two games straight that the Cavaliers have won by exactly ten runs.

The victory (which was East Burke's third in a row) raised their record to 5-2. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for East Rutherford, their record is now 6-0.

East Burke might still be hurting after the 9-0 defeat they got from East Rutherford in their previous matchup back in April of 2017. Can East Burke avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
