Softball Recap: Lewiston Comes Up Short

Lewiston extended their losing streak to three on Tuesday, dropping them down to 6-14. They came up short against the Lakeland Hawks, falling 15-3. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Hawks this season, with their most recent defeat being a 9-6 loss last Saturday.

Darby Litchfield and Addison Jordan stepped up to the plate in a big way. Litchfield went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and two runs, while Jordan went a perfect 1-for-1 with two RBI and one double. Another player making a difference was Morgan Thayer, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one run.

As for Lakeland, they pushed their record up to 17-4 with the victory, which was their fifth straight on the road. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten contests by seven runs or more this season.

On Lakeland's side, Abby Helmholz made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out six batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off seven hits. Helmholz has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double.

In other batting news, Kiersten Drake was a standout: she got on base in four of her five plate appearances with three runs, two RBI, and one double. Raygen Dutton was another key player, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with three RBI, two runs, and one double.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Lewiston beat Lakeland by a score of 13-11 later that day.
