Softball Preview: Burke County Bears vs. Thomson Bulldogs        
        
		
                                                         Burke County and Thomson are an even 5-5 against one another  since September of 2018, but likely not for long. The Burke County Bears will take on the Thomson Bulldogs at 5:00  p.m.  on Thursday. Burke County knows how to get  runs on the board -- the  team has finished with ten run or more in their past four games -- so hopefully Thomson likes a good challenge.
 On Tuesday, Burke County had just enough and edged Thomson out  10-9. With that  victory, the Bears brought their scoring average up to 6.1  runs per game.
  Paityn Oglesby spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned  (and five unearned) runs on eight hits and racked up 14 Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't  pitched less than five  innings in three consecutive pitching appearances.
 At the plate,  Malia Washington was a standout: she scored two  runs and  stole a base while going 2-for-3. Another player making a difference was  Braylin Fare, who  scored three  runs and  stole two bases while going 3-for-4.
 Burke County  kept the outfield on their toes and  finished the game with 12  hits. That's the most  hits they've posted since  back in September of 2023.
 Burke County's win was  their third straight at home, which  pushed their record up to 4-5. As for Thomson, their loss dropped their record down to 2-6.
 The pitchers for both teams better look sharp  on Thursday as neither team is afraid to steal. Burke County has been swiping bases left and right this season,  having  averaged 6  stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Thomson struggles in that department as   they've been averaging 2.8. The only question left is which team can snag more.
