Baseball Recap: Berthoud Has No Trouble Against Greeley Central

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Roosevelt, Berthoud was happy to have turned things around on Saturday. They put the hurt on the Greeley Central Wildcats with a sharp 13-3 win. The Spartans have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Wildcats, too.

Wyatt Barmes was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. He has become a key player for Berthoud: the team is 3-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 4-8 otherwise. Barmes was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Trent Jacobs, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with three RBI, two doubles, and one run. Those two doubles gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Patrick Lehan, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs and one RBI.

Berthoud always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .541. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Greeley Central only posted an OBP of .308.

The victory snapped Berthoud's losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 7-9 record. As for Greeley Central, they dropped their record down to 1-14 with the loss, which was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season.

Berthoud will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Wildcats: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
