Preview: Acalanes Dons vs. Escalon Cougars
The Acalanes Dons will be playing in front of their home fans against the Escalon Cougars at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Acalanes comes in on three and Escalon on nine.
Acalanes extended their postseason success on Friday against San Marin. They took down the Mustangs 24-7.
The critical scores for Acalanes came from Niko White, Paul Kuhner, and Sully Bailey.
Meanwhile, Escalon's offense rose to the challenge against a Tigers defense that boasted an average of only 16.92 points allowed. Escalon slipped by Patterson 36-35 on Friday.
Escalon can attribute much of their success to Donovan Rozevink, who threw for 239 yards and four touchdowns, and Sam Jimenez, who picked up 128 receiving yards and three touchdowns. Rozevink is on a roll when it comes to passing touchdowns, as he's now passed for three or more in the last four games he's played.
Another reason for the win was Escalon's imposing defensive line, which managed to get into the backfield for three sacks. Leading the way was Nico Franzia and his two sacks.
Their wins bumped Acalanes to 9-4 and San Marin to 12-1.
We should be in store for an exciting game Friday as Acalanes and Escalon have no problem gaining yardage. Acalanes has been on an offensive roll this season, having averaged 401.3 total yards per game. However, it's not like Escalon struggles in that department as they've been even better at 418.5 per game. With a pair of commanding offenses duking it out, the defenses are going to have their work cut out for them. Come back here after the game to get analysis of the match and other football content.
