Basketball Recap: New Bern Takes a Loss

New Bern was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their seventh straight loss. They had to suffer through a 91-23 loss at the hands of the South Central Falcons. The game was over by the end of the first half, with no points scored by either team from that point forward.

South Central was led to victory by Brook Evans and Niyani Mayo. Evans dropped a double-double on 22 points and 14 boards, while Mayo almost dropped a double-double on 17 points and nine steals. Evans has been hot for a while, having posted eight or more rebounds the last 12 times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jazmine Farrington, who went 7 of 9 en route to 15 points and four steals.

New Bern's defeat dropped their record down to 3-16. As for South Central, the victory (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 14-4.

New Bern will face off against Northside - Jacksonville at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. New Bern is facing Northside - Jacksonville at the right time seeing as Northside - Jacksonville is stuck on a four-game losing streak. As for South Central, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 56-49 win against Overhills on the 1st.
