Halifax is 9-1 against East Juniata since April of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Wednesday. A feisty cat fight will be fought as Halifax Wildcats face off against East Juniata Tigers at 4:30 p.m. Halifax is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last four games.
Halifax's pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Monday. They put the hurt on Greenwood with a sharp 11-0 victory. The result was nothing new for Halifax, who have now won three contests by seven runs or more so far this season.
Halifax got a great performance from Jack Wilson as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over five innings pitched. What's more, Wilson posted two strikeouts, the most he's had since back in May of 2024.
At the plate, Dayton Bittner was excellent, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-3. Another player making a difference was Ryder Tobias, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI and one stolen base.
Halifax was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .391. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Greenwood only posted a batting average of .059.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for East Juniata, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Saturday. They came out on top against Sugar Valley Rural by a score of 10-6 on Monday. The Tigers haven't had any issues with the Phoenix recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.
Wyatt Weges and Kelton Bonnell made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Weges struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up three earned (and three unearned) runs off three hits. Meanwhile, Bonnell pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because East Juniata is 2-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 0-3 otherwise. At the plate, Weges scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-4, while Bonnell went a perfect 4-for-4 with two stolen bases, four RBI, and two doubles. Those hits marked the first that Bonnell got this season.
In other batting news, East Juniata let Austin Shearer and Nathan Carolus run wild. Shearer scored a run while going 1-for-3, while Carolus scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. That hit marked the first that Shearer got this season.
Halifax's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 4-1. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games. As for East Juniata, they picked up their first home victory, bumping their record up to 2-4.
East Juniata's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Halifax hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .338. It's a different story for East Juniata, though, as they've only averaged .209. Will they be able to contain Halifax's hitters?
