Baseball Recap: Avondale Comes Up Short

Avondale extended their losing streak to six on Saturday, dropping their season record down to 8-20 in the process. They lost 7-0 to the L'Anse Creuse North Crusaders. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Crusaders this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 13-0 on Saturday.

Avondale saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Joe Arends, who went 2-for-3 with two doubles.

As for L'Anse Creuse North, the victory (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 17-18. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.2 runs on average over those games.

On L'Anse Creuse North's side, the team relied heavily on Jacob Combs, who got on base in both of his plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run. Combs has become a key player for the Crusaders: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 14-18 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Jack Agosta, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one triple and one run.

Coming up, Avondale will face off against North Farmington at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for L'Anse Creuse North, they will take on Lakeview at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
