Softball Recap: Fitzgerald Now 9-3 over Last 12 Games

Fitzgerald's game on Tuesday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Wednesday. They put the hurt on the Madison Eagles with a sharp 12-1 win. The Spartans might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 11 matches by six runs or more this season.

Lydia Yokel was a major factor no matter where she played. She struck out ten batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits (and not a single walk). With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 5.1 strikeouts per game. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base and two RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Taylor McCants, who went 1-for-2 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April. Aziya Marks was another key player, getting on base in two of her three plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.

Fitzgerald is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last 12 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-9 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.3 runs over those games. As for Madison, their loss dropped their record down to 3-5.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Fitzgerald will face off against rival Clintondale at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, Madison is set to challenge their familiar foe Sterling Heights at 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday.
