Baseball Recap: Mt. Vernon Takes a Loss

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Mt. Vernon can now relate to. They fell just short of the Pendleton Heights Arabians by a score of 1-0 on Saturday. Having soared to a lofty 12 runs in the game before, the Marauders' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

Drew Morgan spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on four hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Mt. Vernon saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ben Schaeffer, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base.

Mt. Vernon has also traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 15-14 record this season. As for Pendleton Heights, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 19-9.

As of now, neither Mt. Vernon nor the Arabians have any future games scheduled.
